We need to talk about cross-chain vulnerabilities. Everyone assumes that because EVM networks, Solana, TRON, and TON operate on fundamentally different architectures, a threat on one won't affect the others. That might have been true in 2022. It is absolutely false in 2026. Wallet drainers now seamlessly bridge these gaps, offering "comprehensive coverage" to attackers.
Understanding how they attack these specific ecosystems is the only way to stop them.
EVM Networks (Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum) The classic attack vector here is the `eth_sign` signature or malicious Permit2 approvals. Attackers love Permit2 because it allows them to bypass the traditional two-step "Approve then Swap" mechanism. You sign an off-chain message thinking you're just verifying your wallet, and boom—your tokens are gone. Defense: Stop signing messages you can't read. If a prompt asks for a signature and looks like a wall of random characters, decline it. Always use a burner wallet for interacting with new dApps. If a site demands you sign a message just to view the homepage, close the tab.
Solana Solana drainers exploit Versioned Transactions. Because Solana is built for speed and complex token wrapping, attackers can bundle a dozen malicious instructions into a single transaction. You think you are claiming a meme coin airdrop, but the transaction also contains instructions to transfer your SOL, drain your SPL tokens, and even hijack your staking accounts. Defense: Solana wallets have gotten better at simulating transactions, but attackers use "simulation evasion." They write contracts that act normally during simulation but execute maliciously in reality. Your only real defense is strict wallet isolation. Never use your main SOL stash to mint NFTs or claim airdrops.
TRON TRON is a different beast. Drainers here often target your account permissions (Multi-Sig vulnerabilities) or exploit the bandwidth and energy mechanics. They trick you into delegating your energy, effectively freezing your ability to transact, or worse, altering the account permissions so they have permanent access. Defense: Check your TRON account permissions regularly via TronScan. If you see any unauthorized addresses under your active or owner permissions, you need to migrate funds immediately. Never sign a transaction that mentions "UpdateAccountPermission".
TON (The Open Network) TON is the new playground for drainers, primarily because of its massive integration with Telegram. Scammers use fake Telegram bots or mini-apps to request transaction approvals. The UX is so seamless that people forget they are dealing with real money. Defense: Treat every Telegram mini-app with extreme suspicion. Just because it is inside Telegram does not mean it is safe. Verify the official handle of the bot.
The unified defense strategy? Assume everything is a trap until proven otherwise. Don't rely on the blockchain's native security features to save you from your own clicks. If a drainer supports 90+ networks, you need to defend yourself on all 90. That means separate wallets, hardware keys, and a healthy dose of skepticism every single time you hit "Connect Wallet".
