Jill came bounding out the front door as Robert and Sue Ferguson exited their SUV. She hugged both of them and said, “Thank you. Thank you. You two are a godsend. First, you are putting us up and now helping out with the packing.”
Jill and her husband, Dave Smith, are “downsizing” as they called it. They actually were just going from a larger house in the city to a smaller and more expensive one by the lake. Their daughter was soon graduating from college, and their son had started college, so they were empty nesters. They decided that the big house that they have, which is located close to schools, is no longer needed, and they can finally move to that house with the view that they are building by the lake.
Unfortunately, the timing bug has bitten them. Their new house won’t be completed for two more months, and a very attractive offer came in for their current home, but the buyers required the deal to close next Monday. Robert and Sue are here on the Tuesday before to help Jill because Dave is away at a training session for new electrical hardware that his company is installing on a project that starts in two weeks.
Robert and Sue were going to put Dave and Jill up for the next two months in their spare room, so before Friday, when the movers showed up, the house contents had to be organized. What was going to storage, to be donated, or to the dump?
Dave and Jill had already identified the furniture that they wanted to keep for the new house and had already sold or donated all the furniture that wasn’t needed. So, Robert had taken the day off to help Sue and Jill go through everything else.
Dave had ordered a dumpster which was sitting in front of Robert’s SUV in the driveway.
Sue and Jill were going to start going through the kitchen and bedrooms to pack things up.
Robert asked, “Jill, where do you want me to start?”
Jill said, “You can pull everything out of the basement storage and the attic.”
=======
Robert and Dave met in high school. Initially, they were lumped together because they looked similarthey had the same height, hair color, and physiqueso the other kids in school labeled them “The Twins.”
Although they hated it at first, they grew to like their nickname, and a friendship solidified. It didn’t hurt that their fathers worked together on some construction projects. Robert’s dad owned a plumbing contracting company, and Dave’s an electrical contractor. Both of their fathers were a bit of a taskmaster. Any day they were off school, they would be on the job with their fathers. Learning their father’s trade.
They both went to college, renting a place together, for business degrees as their fathers wanted them prepared to take over their businesses.
At college, Dave met Jill. She was a cheerleader for the football team.
Robert was never sure if Jill liked Dave for Dave or for the fact that he drove a fancy car. You see, there was one big difference between their fathers. Robert’s father was a bottomline kind of guy. He didn’t need fancy things, so he took a decent salary but put as much money into the business so he could improve and grow it. Dave’s father, however, liked the finer things in life, so while he did grow the business, he did take more money out of it.
Robert’s father drove a 15yearold pickup, but his plumbers always had the best vans and equipment. He never wanted to see equipment fail before it was replaced. Dave’s father leased his personal car and always got the latest and greatest, but he allowed his company’s equipment and vehicles to die before they were replaced.
So, while Dave and Robert both had cars at college, Dave drove a brandnew Corvette while Robert drove a used Honda Civic. Dave’s car was a high school graduation present from his parents. Robert selected and bought his car with the money that he made working with his father.
It was in the third year that Dave and Jill became an item, and after a while, Dave tried to get Robert interested in Jill’s best friend and fellow cheerleader, Sue.
Robert thought she was way out of his league, but after being pressured by Dave and Jill, and the fact that he thought that this would likely be his only chance to go out with someone so hot looking, he decided, “What the fuck.”
They went out on a double date. Dinner and then dancing. They had a few slow dances, and Robert couldn’t believe the feeling of her molding up against his body. He had girlfriends before, but nothing like the chemistry he felt that night. Sue had invited him back to her place after. To “continue dancing,” as she put it, Robert still wasn’t sure why she would even be interested in him, and he preferred to take things slow anyhow. She was disappointed but said she understood.
The next day, Dave came out of his room after a rocking session with Jill that night. Robert was on the couch reading through some class material, eating a breakfast burrito that he just pulled from the Microwave.
Dave said laughing, “Jill will be coming out of the room soon, but she may be walking a bit funny.” He slapped Robert on the back. “Why didn’t you tap Sue last night, she was willing?”
Robert shrugged, “You know me. I like to take it a little more slowly before jumping into bed with them. Make sure that there could be something first.”
Dave punched him in the shoulder, “Trust me, there is something there between you two. And besides, she is Jill’s best friend, so the four of us would be real tight.”
Robert sat back, taking another bite of his breakfast. After swallowing, he said, “You might be right, but I have to see how things go. She may not even want another date with me.”
Jill came out of Dave’s bedroom at this moment. She was wearing one of Dave’s Tshirts. It barely covered her. Robert looked back to his book. It wasn’t that he was embarrassed by her. She was amazinglooking. He just thought that since she was Dave’s girlfriend, it wasn’t his place to stare.
Jill said, “Oh, there will be another date. She sent me a text. She was really into you.”
Robert sat there and said, “I don’t get it. Why me?”
Jill hugged Robert and kissed him on the cheek. “You underestimate yourself.”
Well, the dates continued, and Robert ended up, after one of them, in Sue’s bed.
She was better looking than Jill, but Robert had a nagging feeling. She could go out with anyone. Why me? It was almost like it was convenient because she was Jill’s friend, and Robert was Dave’s.
There were even some awkward times when Robert felt like the fourth wheel when they were out. Sue sometimes seemed to enjoy Dave’s company more than his.
However, she said the right things. When they did fight, Jill and Dave acted as mediators, and the issue was resolved or forgotten.
Robert still had that nagging feeling but started to feel that maybe it was some kind of inferiority complex because she seemed too good to be true.
They all finished college. Robert and Dave went to work with their fathers. Sue and Jill couldn’t find a job in their field, but through connections, Dave’s father got them jobs as tellers at the same bank.
Robert moved back in with his parents, while Sue moved into the second bedroom of the apartment that Dave and Jill rented. Robert felt he wasn’t ready to take that next step with her.
Robert’s mother was over the moon with Sue but likely would have been over the moon with any girl he brought home. Robert’s father didn’t like her. When Robert confronted him, his dad said, “I don’t know. There is just something about her that rubs me the wrong way.” He then put a hand on Robert’s shoulder and said, “Maybe it is just me..” he paused and said, “If you like her, then don’t let me stand in your way. Maybe I just need to get to know her more.”
Dave and Jill married the next year and had a daughter, Julie, 9 months later.
Although Robert knew Sue wanted to get married, Robert wasn’t quite ready yet. He was trying to save for a downpayment on a house before popping the question. Sue was getting a little impatient with him. However, fate forced his hand. Sue became pregnant. So, three years after Dave and Jill, and three months after baby, Sharon, was born, Robert and Sue went down the aisle
There was a family disagreement, however. Robert’s father still hadn’t come around on Sue and was insisting on a prenup. He even went so far with Robert that it is a prenup or you must look for work elsewhere. To appease Sue, Robert’s father promised no expense would be spared on the wedding, lavish honeymoon, and a healthy down payment for a house. They both agreed, and a prenuptial agreement was signed before the wedding.
The wedding was spectacular. Jill was a little jealous of Sue’s wedding and their honeymoon in Hawaii.
Robert was so excited to get back to see baby Sharon. They had a celebration with Dave and Jill once they got back.
Life continued. One year after Sharon was born, Dave and Jill had a daughter, Sarah. Two years later, Robert and Sue had a son. They named him David after their friend who brought them together.
Things were generally good for Robert and Sue. Robert learned and eventually took over the business from his Dad, allowing his Dad to retire by actually returning to his roots. He became a parttime plumber again, working shifts with a few guys who had been with the company from the start.
Although his dad had steadily grown the business, Robert took things to the next level. He expanded to the point where his company could independently take on the plumbing of large construction projects.
Dave, on the other hand, continued to run the business as his dad had. The business grew, but he took so much out to maintain their lifestyle that it fell way behind Robert’s progress.
The conflict in Robert’s marriage was usually about money. Sue wanted to have the life that she saw Jill having: clothes, cars, and a house. Robert compromised where he could. She used a clothing allowance to try to keep up with Jill. Robert wouldn’t buy her the latest and greatest BMW but would pull off a nice deal on an offlease BMW. Usually, when they had a big fight, as when they were dating, Dave and Jill would step in to help keep the peace.
To her mother’s chagrin, Sharon was a daddy’s girl. When she turned 16, she insisted on working with her dad, as her grandpa told her her father had done with him.
Their son David, however, was like his mother. He threw a fit when he got a used Toyota for his 16th birthday.
This, of course, brings us back to today. Dave’s daughter Julie finished college and has snagged a football player with NFL prospects as a fiancé. His other daughter Sarah started college and was just accepted onto the school cheerleading squad.
Robert’s son David is at high school today while his parents are helping Jill with packing. Sharon is following her father’s path and taking a business course so she could eventually take over the business.
=======
Robert moved everything out of the basement storage area to allow Jill and Sue to go through it, and he then started on the attic.
Jill had thought that most things in the attic were likely garbage, but just to show it to her before throwing it into the bin.
Robert had already taken a few loads out to the bin when he came across a small green box in a corner. As he had done with the other boxes, he opened them to check what was inside so that he had an idea of what Jill would recommend. To his surprise, this one had VHS video tapes inside.
Robert thought, “OK, another load to the dumpster” when he caught the writing on one of the tapes. It said, “Sue’s wedding”.
Roberts said to himself, “That’s odd.”
He looked at the other tapes, which had titles like “Jill and Sue at the Cottage,” “Jill and Sue at Home,” and “Jill and Sue at Roberts.”
Robert sat on the attic floor. He thought, “What the fuck?” The tapes also had dates. The latest was from ten years ago. Thinking of the date on the cottage tape. He couldn’t go with them for the weekend that year due to an emergency job. The kids were at his parents’ house, so it was supposed to be a couple’s weekend away. He thought, “What the hell is on these tapes?”
He was broken out of his thoughts when Jill yelled up, asking if he wanted some lunch.
He yelled back down that he was almost ready. He had another box to bring down.
He quickly emptied another box and put the green one on the bottom. He then piled the old Christmas decorations on top of the green box.
He brought it down and showed the box to Jill. As expected, she told him to take it to the dumpster.
He brought it outside. He knew the girls would be in the kitchen putting lunch together at the back of the house, so he quickly fished the green box out from under the Christmas decorations. Threw those in the dumpster and put the green box in the trunk. He covered it in a blanket in case Sue needed to put something of Jill and Dave’s in the SUV since they would live with them for the next two months.
Sue remarked that he was quiet at lunch. He said, “Sorry, the dust in the attic is getting to me. I’m not looking forward to going back there.”
Sue didn’t generally like it when he was sweaty and dirty, so he was relieved that Sue wouldn’t be coming over to hug him to give him some support. Robert’s mind was going to a million dark places, wondering what could be on those tapes. Right now, he managed to be civil to these potential backstabbers but didn’t need any physical contact. He had set up an old VHS VCR to a computer in his office to convert some old family videos over to the computer. He left it set up because occasionally friends would have a video that they wanted converted. He would find out what was on those tapes soon enough.
=======
After all the work for the day was done and he got home, Robert managed to sneak the box of tapes into his office while Sue was making dinner. Dave was working on homework in his room after Robert had the usual argument with him about something that he wanted Robert to buy for him.
He shook his head as he walked away from David. He then told Sue, “I’m going for a quick shower. The attic was quite dusty.”
When he finished, he quickly ran to his office and started the conversion on the wedding tape. He saw Sue in her wedding dress, but as much as he wanted to find out what was on it, he knew Sue was expecting him for dinner after his shower. Since the video had to play at regular speed for the conversion, he just left it converting, turned off the monitor, and checked the time so he could return later and get the next tape started. The one labeled “Jill and Sue at Roberts”.
After dinner he was able to sneak away and switch to the “Roberts” tape.
Robert’s usual pattern at home was to spend the evening with the family, and then, if he had work to do, he could do it later in the evening. Once David finished his homework after dinner, he went to play video games. Sue went to catch up on her TV shows which then gave Robert to check on the videos.
The “Roberts” video had been completed, so he set the “Cottage” video to convert.
Robert sat there and took a deep breath. He really hoped that this was much ado about nothing but thought that it was very unlikely. He decided to start with the “Roberts” video.
The video started with Jill and Sue looking all excited in front of the camera. Robert’s heart sank when he realized that the video was being taken in his and Sue’s bedroom. Dave then came into view.
He said, “Sue, are you sure? Isn’t this going a bit too far you in Robert’s bed?”
Sue grinned and started undoing Dave’s fly. She said, “It serves him right for buying me a used BMW.” She then got down on her knees and started to suck on Dave’s cock.”
Robert was in shock. He stopped the video and sat there, taking deep breaths, as a tear started to run down his cheek. He couldn’t believe it. He jumped the video ahead to see Dave Sue doggy style while Sue’s head was buried between Jill’s legs, eating her out.
He stopped and closed the video. He put his head in his hands and started to cry. He thought, “How much of my life has been a lie?”
After getting himself together, he decided to play the “Wedding” video.
When the video started, it was 19 years ago, but he recognized the room at the church where the bride and her party would wait for the service to start. He saw Sue in her wedding dress and Jill standing by the door, almost acting like a lookout.
Dave then walked into camera range and kissed Sue. He said, “You look so beautiful. Too bad it wasn’t me you were marrying.”
Sue said, “Well, at least I am finally getting married. After we finally figured out that the reason I wasn’t getting knocked up was because Robert is sterile. At least you finally put a baby in me. Otherwise, this wedding day may never have come.” You could hear Jill laughing in the background.
Robert just sat there stunned. It was bad enough that she was cheating, but now they say that Sharon and likely David aren’t even his. His entire world crumbled right before his eyes.
The video kept playing, and the next he saw was Sue bending forward over a table and Dave managing to flip the wedding dress onto her back, move her panties aside and fuck her.
His first urge was to go and beat the shit out of Sue, but he took a deep breath. He wiped the tears from his eyes.
He sat for a few minutes. He remembered that Dave went to check that everything was set with the girls before the ceremony. Robert had wondered what was taking so long as the minister came to him, ready to start the ceremony.
He thought about canceling the conversion of the “Cottage” tape but decided to continue the conversion of that and the other three tapes in case there were any other tidbits of information to be gained. It was recorded after David was born. Of course, then Robert got pulled away on that emergency. He thought, “Did they manage that emergency so I couldn’t go?”
His thoughts were interrupted by Sue. She knocked on the door and opened it. Fortunately, the computer screen was turned away from the door. She said, “I’m heading to bed. You coming?”
Fortunately, he said, out of reflex, “I’ll be up in a bit. Just finishing something up.”
She looked at him strangely. She asked, “You, OK?”
Robert tried to hold it together. He wanted to say, “You are a betraying cunt.” But instead said, “I think the dust in the attic got to me.”
After she left, he thought, “I’ve got to get out of here.” He ensured that the videos were copied to the cloud, just in case Sue came into his office and saw them being copied.
He went upstairs. Sue was getting just crawling into bed. Even with the betrayal, Sue still got a rise out of him. Unlike most women, she always wore something y to bed. There were no shapeless oversized tshirts in her bedtime wardrobe. She was wearing a pink baby doll tonight.
He managed to get out. “Dad called. He decided to start working on the basement laundry today that he was talking about, but he has a bit of a situation. I am going to run over there now to help him out. I shouldn’t be too late.”
Sue and Robert’s father still didn’t get along, even after all these years. There was no basement laundry project. Robert just knew that she wouldn’t have remembered about one even if there had been such a project. She got the same pissedoff look whenever Robert mentioned his father and said, “Fine.”
