I Want Her to Know What Love Is, Ch 6
A Proposal
“Hey, Tommy, would you like to see how I bring to the boat in to the dock in Grand Marais?”
We were about a mile out of the harbor, and I was ready to take the wheel and bring her in. The boat had stopped on it’s own when we reached the destination point I’d put in it.
“Sure, Rooster.”
“Come sit with me so I can show you some other controls. Sonia, could you move over for your son?”
“Absolutely,” she said.
She slid over to a side seat on the bridge after giving me a kiss.
“Because this boat is on the larger size as boats go, it’s equipped with what are called bow thrusters. Remember when I talked about really big boats, and momentum, and how much space they need to do a 180 turn?”
“Yeah.”
“I said this boat could do a turn in around twenty feet, but that’s still a lot when you’re maneuvering around other boats. I don’t want to do damage to my boat and two or three others trying to get her parked. That would cost a lot of money. So, we have a bow thruster, which is like a little motor on the front of the boat, and the motor on the back, so it can move sideways, like a crab. You start the bow thrusters by pushing this button here, by my right hand, and it turns it on. Now using this little joystick, I can go forward, backwards and sideways, to get into my parking spot. Imagine how easy it would be to parallel park if you could pull up next to an empty spot, and just nudge in sideways to claim it. And get out the same way. Easy, peasy, right?”
I showed him how the boat could move sideways to either side, forward and back, just by using the little joystick.
“Now, it can’t go very fast when we use this, maybe less than a mile an hour, but remember, momentum also depends on the mass or weight of an object, so even slow speeds build up enough momentum that this heavy boat could crush a dock. So, we’re going to go forward at around ten knots until I enter the breakwater, then back off the throttle to slow way down, to let the water take away my momentum. I’ll approach the marina at around a knot, then slow down more using forward and reverse until I’m barely moving. That’s when I use the joystick to maneuver close to other boats.”
“Okay.”
We entered the breakwater around Grand Marais and I slowed down, bringing the boat close to the marina where I’d already gotten a berthing permit. By the time we reached the other boats lined up, I had negligible speed and momentum, and I turned on the bow thrusters. As we got close to our berth, I told Benson to throw the forward line to the employee waiting for me to pull in. He’d already put out some rubber bumpers.
Benson tossed the forward line, and I jockeyed forward and back to keep my speed to a minimum. I barely kissed the rubber bumper beside me. The marina employee tied me off forward and Sonia threw him the aft line, and we got tied in.
“Not bad, huh, Tommasino.”
“Pretty good, Rooster. Smooth as silk.”
“What says everyone to having someone else cook our meal this afternoon, then we stroll around Grand Marais for a bit, check out a couple of the tourist shops, then we’ll sleep on the boat tonight, and go home tomorrow.”
“Where?” Sonia asked.
“I’m thinking the Angry Trout Cafe, which is close, and has a variety of food, although mostly fish.”
“Sounds good to me, sir,” Benson said.
“What kind of food?” Tommy asked.
“Sandwiches, fish and chips, burgers, different kinds of baked or grilled fish, chicken, shrimp, even bison?”
“What’s bison?”
“The American Buffalo, more properly known as bison, think American plains, Indians, Buffalo Bill Cody, the big, hunchbacked beast that covered the plains for thousands of years.”
“I can have buffalo meat?”
“If you want it. It’s a kind of a steak.”
“How much is it?” Sonia asked.
“It’s a steak, at steak prices.”
“Would he be able to eat it all?”
“Probably not, but he can take leftovers home.”
“What if he doesn’t like it?”
“I’m sure it will get eaten. We both liked the bison tartare we had at Spoon and Stable.”
We went to The Angry Trout and had lunch. Benson and I both had the fish of the day, which today was walleye, grilled, with the wild rice which had shiitake mushrooms, peas, dried cranberries, and roasted hazelnuts in it. Sonia had the maple BBQ grilled chicken sandwich, and Tommy got the expected bison tenderloin with waffle fries.
Benson and I also shared a half carafe of the Ananto white wine blend, while Sonia had a wine spritzer and Tommy had a draught root beer. Sonia had a bite of Tommy’s steak which was far too large for him. I shared bites of my food with Sonia, and she really liked the wild rice, which Benson filed away for future culinary endeavors.
“So Tommy, what do you think of your bison?”
“It’s not much different than beef,” he said, “except it’s a little tougher and the flavor is not quite the same.”
“It’s grass fed, as opposed to grain fed, and hasn’t been bred as food, so it probably has a wilder taste, not quite so domesticated.”
“Wilder. That’s a good description of it.”
“You had a little taste of camping. One night in a tent. What did you think of it? Would you want to do more of it?”
“Yeah, I liked it. It was fun.”
“I was thinking that in three days, we go to the boundary waters and take a canoe and find us our own little island and camp out for four straight nights. Would you like that?”
“I think that would be great.”
“Consider this. Unless we can catch some fish, it will probably be more freeze dried food for several days, no hot showers, no toilet but one we dig in the ground, paddling a canoe. It won’t be like going to a motel. This is roughing it. Also, Benson won’t be coming with us, so sleeping arrangements would be different. Four nights, not an overnighter. Paddling to get there, not comfortably sitting on a big motorboat. It will be a little harder than this trip.”
“We could come back early if I didn’t like it?”
“Yeah, we could, but I don’t want to go unless you think you can stick it out.”
“I’d like to try.”
“Good man. What about you, Sonia? Are you ready to ride the river with me?”
She laughed. “Still checking to see if I can share a tent with you?”
“One night does not a camping trip make. That was just to see if you could stand it. The real test is yet to come.”
“Throw me to the wolves. Let’s see if I can take it.”
“Good girl.” I kissed her. “I like your spirit of adventure.”
Tommy wanted to try the Swedish Creme for dessert, a custard dessert with lingonberry sauce. Sonia was reluctant to let him have it, since he ate so little of his bison, about a quarter of it.
“I like that Tommy wants to try different things,” I said. “It’s much better than having a picky eater. What he doesn’t eat, I will. It’s not like I’m going to go broke feeding him, and he can take the rest of his steak home.”
Sonia relented and Tommy looked at me gratefully. I winked at him. I had a slice of apple pie which Sonia shared with me and Benson had the kladdkaka, a Swedish dark chocolate torte with a chocolate ganache topping. As a chef, Benson was evaluating new foods all of the time. I thought it was why he tried the wild rice prepared the way it was, and the dessert, which he was unfamiliar with.
We took Tommy’s doggy bag and I walked it back to the boat to refrigerate it, while the others checked a nearby tourist shop. It was a short walk and didn’t take me but fifteen minutes. Wandering in and out of the different shops, many of which had arts and crafts by local artists and craftsman, as this was an area known as an artist’s retreat, kind of like Taos, New Mexico is in the Southwest. Tommy found some moccasins he wanted to have as house slippers, I found a painting that I had to have for the lake house. I also found a beaded and fringed white leather Native American dress I thought looked fantastic on Sonia.
A stop at the grocery store got us the ingredients for a salad for the night’s meal. Arriving back at the boat around six, we fixed the salad and enjoyed that along with some soft drinks and water. Tommy had a bit more of his steak.
We lounged around on the boat for a time, telling each other stories for awhile until Tommy went to bed.
“Where does your mother live, Rooster?” Sonia asked.
“The same town I grew up in,” I said. I hoped she wouldn’t ask for specifics, and thank God, she didn’t.
“Where’s your sister live?”
“Edina,” I said, glad to be off the topic of my home town.
“What’s her husband like?”
“Greg, he’s all right as far as I know. He’s tall, handsome, bit of a workaholic, I think. Seems to treat Jenny okay. At least I’ve never heard her complain about him. I don’t know him all that well. I was on a mission when they got married, so I missed the wedding. I’ve only met him a half dozen times. He works a lot. I’ve seen her without him more than I’ve seen her with him. He travels a lot, some kind of a medical devices salesman.”
“Do you like him?”
“He has a little too much of a wandering eye, if you know what I mean. He’s never blatant about it, but it’s there. Seems disrespectful to me, but as long as it’s look but don’t touch, I guess he isn’t that much different from most guys. I’ve done the same.”
“But you’re single, and that’s the difference.”
“It seems so to me.”
“I’ve never noticed you checking out other women when you’re with me.”
“You’re the most beautiful woman in the room, so everyone else is a bit of a downgrade if you ask me.”
She laughed and leaned her head on my arm.
Benson said, “He’s not wrong.”
“The waiter at the Spoon and Stable couldn’t take his eyes off her,” I said, laughing. “I think he would have given his left arm to motorboat her breasts.”
Benson and Sonia laughed. “Benson, would you like to meet my mother?” Sonia asked.
“Does she look anything like you?”
“Adopted by white parents, so not much,” Sonia laughed. “I think she’s attractive though.”
“I’m not averse to meeting her.”
“We’ll invite her over when we get home,” I said. “You can form your own opinion. Since she managed to raise Sonia and helps raise Tommy, you know she’ll be a sweetheart.”
“You say the nicest things, Rooster,” Sonia said. “You always make me feel good about myself.”
“On that note, I think it’s time to go to bed, so I can pay homage to my honey.”
Sonia smiled, full wattage. “I’d like that. Goodnight, Benson.”
“Goodnight, ma’am.”
As soon as we were in our cabin, the clothes came flying off. I was about to put my dick in her honeyed treasure box, but she stopped me.
“I only have one more tampon. Fuck my ass, please.”
“That’s a hardship,” I laughed. “Let me get a towel and lube.”
“Yes.”
I wet a towel and got some lube and Sonia got on her hands and knees in front of me. I went easy on her the first time, but I never totally lost my erection, since I was staring at her perfection. The second time was a wee bit brisker, since she was now opened for me. After climaxing the second time in her fine fundament, I cleaned us both up with the towel and she curled up in my arms. I suspected the others might have heard us. We tried to be quiet, but weren’t as successful as Sonia might have wished. With luck, Tommy was asleep.
******
The run back home was a fairly easy trip, thirty miles give or take, and at my normal cruising speed of twenty knots, a little under 90 minutes. Sonia looked a little uncomfortable sitting, so she seemed to spend more time lying down. I really needed to ease up on her when we had , but she never said anything.
“Do you want to dock her, Tommy? There’s no other boats around, and I’ll be sitting right beside you.”
“Can I?”
“We can certainly give it a shot,” I said. “Approach it from alongside, so if you have too much speed we can go round and try it again. If you can stop it right beside the dock, you can use the bow thrusters to nudge us in alongside. Your Mom and Benson can hop out and tie us up.”
The first time he tried, Tommy carried too much speed and took us past the dock. The second time he did great and was idling right where we needed to be. He turned on the bow thrusters and I warned the others to stand by and Tommy used the joystick to bring us in nice and slow.
“Okay, let her drift a little. That’s right. As soon as we touch, just keep her nudged alongside the dock so they can tie the boat off.”
Kids were used to using joysticks what with video games, and Tommy was no exception. We touched and Benson and Sonia both hopped to the dock and tied us off. I killed the motor.
“Great job, captain,” I said. “You did swell.”
“Did you see, Mom. I brought us in all by myself.”
“I did see, Tommy. You were wonderful.”
We unloaded all of our gear on the dock, including any unused food, and carried it up to the house. Benson started some laundry and then lunch.
After lunch, Tommy set up for another Marvel movie while Sonia and I went out on my deck to get some sun. She was back in her swimsuit and we oiled each other for protection, then I held her as we watched to waves roll in and smack the rocks. She turned and kissed me.
“You’re so patient with Tommy,” Sonia said. “You make him feel grownup instead of like a kid.”
“You learn to be grown up by being treated as a grown up,” I said. “Did your bottom hurt this morning?”
“A little. Not enough I would have changed anything we did.”
I smiled and she smiled back. She settled into my arms.
******
That night, after a shower, and both of us feeling squeaky clean, and with her box of tampons at the house, we put a towel down on the bed and had normal intercourse, twice, the second time as I used a medium sized vibrator in her butt at the same time. She didn’t quite wake the house, but she did seem to love it. I couldn’t get enough of her, nor could she seem to get enough of me. She initiated the second one without any prompting by me. Every night with Sonia was like a dream come true. I loved the scent of her, the way she felt in my arms, her voice, her moans of pleasure, every part of it.
The next day, after a hearty breakfast, and an order for chili for supper, we drove back towards Grand Marais, but stopping at the Cascade River State Park. The area between my house and Grand Marais is bordered by the lake on one side, and the Sawtooth Mountains on the other side of 61. They weren’t huge elevations, no more than a thousand or so feet above the lake, but it did make for some good hiking. We went along the river, then cut across on the Lookout Mountain Trail, going to the top, before hiking back and eating at the Cascade Restaurant and Pub.
We were hungry from our hike and I had the Big Cascade Burger, Sonia the Patty Melt, and Tommy had the Fish and Chips. He wanted to get the Wild Burger, which was bison, elk and wild boar meat mixed together, but it was a half pound burger and Sonia reminded him he still had some bison steak at home.
“But this has elk in it,” Tommy protested.
“And we can come back for it after you’ve eaten your steak. You don’t need everything all at once.”
“What if we don’t come back here again?”
“Will we be by here again, Rooster?”
“At least twice, if not more,” I laughed, “although it will be too early for lunch the first time.”
“There you go, Tommy. You’ll have another chance.”
“What are we going to do tomorrow?” Tommy asked.
“Well, we have to have the boat down to Tettegouche by 8:00 AM the day after tomorrow, so I thought a nice leisurely boat ride to the Apostle Islands, then back, and dropping anchor right by Tettegouche so we don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to get there in time.”
“How will we get home?” Sonia asked.
“Benson will bring the Genesis SUV down to pick us up. He should be there at nine.”
“Then we’re going to the Boundary Waters the next day?” Tommy asked.
“That’s right. We’ll be going up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais up towards the USCanada border. The closest lake to the end of the trail is Sea Gull Lake. There are some islands there we can camp on after a relatively short canoe ride. Or we can go to Saganaga Lake which is a longer canoe trip and right on the border. If we go there, we could end up in either Minnesota or Ontario, depending on where we set up our tents. The reason I’m thinking of camping on one of the smaller islands is we wouldn’t have to worry much about bears sniffing around our campsite for food. We’ll look at a map when we get home.”
“Do we need passports to cross the border?” Sonia asked.
“Only an Enhanced ID driver’s license or Real ID driver’s license, and probably not even that if we’re on a lake without a line marking the border. Do you have either of those two driver’s licenses?”
“I don’t,” Sonia said, “and Tommy is too young to have a driver’s license.”
“But not too young for an official ID or passport. We should go about getting him one. Starting next year, you’re going to need a Real ID to fly anywhere. I guess we’ll camp in Sea Gull Lake then.”
“Are we going to stay in the same spot?” Tommy asked.
“Once we pitch our tents, they will stay in the same spot. Since we’ll have a canoe, we can do a little exploring, a little fishing, a little swimming, but probably not much hiking, as we’ll be surrounded by water.”
*******
After supper, we looked at a map I pulled up on my iPad. It showed the Gunflint Trail and we zoomed in on the trail end which had a beach, campground and a cafe, called, suitably enough, the Trail’s End Cafe. Just to be on the safe side, Sonia wanted to stay in Minnesota, so we picked Sea Gull Lake for our camping. Sea Gull Lake had dozens of islands in it, many large enough for our purposes, including one called Threemile Island, which wasn’t quite three miles long, although close enough. Tommy wanted to camp on a really small island, but I said a larger one would give us something to explore.
When Tommy went to bed, I told Sonia I’d like her to wear the Lush on the boat ride tomorrow and in the car as we drove tup.
“What about Tommy?”
“I’ll be keeping Tommy occupied with enough activities that you can orgasm a little without him noticing. I just want to have some fun with you since we’ve had to curtail some of our with him being around all the time. You haven’t even been naked except in our bed.”
“Like what?”
“Driving the boat. You don’t think I’ve taught him to steer the boat without having an ulterior motive as part of my plan? Mucho mangos, baby,” tapping my head. “While there isn’t much navigating to be done in the car, I’ll have him pointing out certain things on the map on the Trail while you sit in the back seat. I can watch you in the rear view mirror while Tommy is kept busy in the front.”
“M’mm. I have to admit I’ve enjoyed the other times I’ve worn it. It does tend to shorten a trip. I have good news.”
“What’s that?”
“My period is over. We don’t need to worry about tampons now.”
“That is good news. We need to take advantage now.”
I picked her up and carried her up two flights of stairs to my bedroom. The first thing that I wanted to do was lick her tasty pussy. That was about the only thing I felt a little queasy about doing when a woman was menstruating. I didn’t know if I’d feel like a vampire or some kind of ghoul if I ended up eating an egg. Not that I’d ever know, the darn thing was so small.
